London, Dec 27 (IANS) A drunken Briton has been arrested after he drove a stolen car onto the runway at Amsterdam's Schiphol airport, one of the largest airports in Europe.
The unnamed man, who was making his way home for Christmas earlier this week, pushed an emergency exit button at one of the gates at the airport, stumbled onto the tarmac and stole a car belonging to an airport contract personnel, police told the Daily Mail.
The man drove around the runway for a few minutes but there was no danger to flight traffic at any point during the incident, police said.
Police said they did not know exactly where the passenger was headed, but it was somewhere in Britain.
"We don't know why he took the car, these are things you do when you're drunk," a police official said.
Schiphol is Europe's fourth-largest airport with 120,000-140,000 passengers passing through daily.
