Second round of 2G-spectrum auction will be carried out by the government later this fiscal for the 4 blocks including Delhi, Mumbai, Karnataka and Gujarat.
First round of auction was carried out last month but it failed to attract any bidders for these blocks, as the reserve price was very high.
The Cabinet yesterday approved a 30 per cent cut in the reserve price and now government hopes to raise at least Rs 20,000 crore from the next round of auctions scheduled before March 31, 2013.
R Chandrashekhar, Secretary of Department of Telecommunications (DoT) said, "At this base price, we would expect approximately, I would say, somewhere around Rs 20,000 crore for all the spectrum in 1,800 Mhz and 900 Mhz that is put on the auction block".
In the 2G spectrum auction held last month, reserve price for Delhi was Rs 693.06 crore, for Mumbai it was Rs 678.45 crore, for Karnataka it was Rs 330.12 and for Rajasthan it was Rs 67.08 crore.
In last month auction, 176 blocks were put to auction, of which 102 blocks were bid for and won. 17 circles went for the reserve price while four circles saw no bidders.
