Tata Tele withdraws from CDMA spectrum bid, NO bidders left

New Delhi, Tue, 06 Nov 2012 NI Wire

Tata Tele has withdrawn its application to participate in the CDMA spectrum (for the 800 Mhz band) bid. With no bidders left government might be forced to cancel the auction of CDMA spectrum.

Earlier, Videocon, another bidder for CDMA spectrum withdrew its bid on November 2.

Tata Teleservices have already deposited Rs. 22.5 crore and applied for Assam, the North-East and Jammu and Kashmir while Videocon deposited Rs. 220 crore and applied for 8 zones.

Both companies lost their license after the 2 February Supreme Court ruling that cancelled 122 telecom licenses allocated to 9 companies. Videocon lost all its licenses that had been granted in January 2008.

Videocon has also applied for participation in the 1800MHz band GSM spectrum auction in around 10-12 circles.

The 2G-spectrum auction (for both CDMA and GSM) will take place on November 12. The final list of bidders will be announced on November 6. Mock auction will take place on November 7 and November 8.

Bharti Airtel, Vodafone, Idea Cellular, Telenor and Videocon are bidding for GSM radiowaves in the 1800 MHz band auction.
