Chandigarh, Nov 28 (IANS) Kenya has sought the assistance of the Punjab government and its agencies for automation of their road transport sector, an official said Wednesday.

Kenya's registrar of motor vehicles Francis Meja has written to the transport secretary of Punjab seeking the state's help.

"The letter stated that the Kenyan government would like to replicate the Punjab system for online application of road sector documents such as driving licences and motor vehicle registration certificates," a government spokesperson said here.

"They have also expressed the desire to replicate the centralised data of the transport sector. They have also expressed interest in Punjab's experiment of CCTV cameras to improve traffic regulation," the official said.

Appreciating the online model of the department, the Kenya government has shown desire to replicate the model being adopted by Punjab for shared data both through internet and mobile technologies, the official added.

The steps taken by Punjab in the road transport sector are part of the state's governance reforms initiated last year.

In the letter, Meja said Kenya would send a six?member committee next week to Punjab to implement the project in his country.
