More than 124 workers have been killed in a garment factory of Bangladesh due to a fierce fire, which broke out on Saturday evening.
The fire broke out in the ground-floor warehouse of the 9-storey Tazreen Fashion factory situated 30 kilometers away from capital Dhaka. Police suspect the fires originated from an electrical short-circuit.
Firefighters battled for several hours to control the fire. It was brought under control around 6 a.m. on Sunday.
4,000 workers were present when the fire started out of which 3,000 managed to escape but 1,000 workers were trapped inside.
9 bodies were found Saturday night, and 115 more were recovered from the factory Sunday morning.
Most of the people died from jumping as they tried to escape the choking smoke and flames.
Search operation is still being carried out and death toll may still rise.
An official from the Bangladesh Garment Manufacturers and Exporters Association said they will provide one lakh taka (around $12,300) to the kin of each of the dead.
