Breast cancer awareness drive: monuments to be lit in pink

New Delhi, Oct 20 (IANS) Historic monuments like Safdarjung Tomb, Rahim Khane Khana Tomb and Subz Burj among others will be lit in pink to spread awareness about breast cancer, a healthcare service provider said.

"One in every 25-30 women in urban India is likely to develop breast cancer as compared to one in every 65-70 women from rural India. Urban women are more vulnerable due to lifestyle changes," Max Healthcare said.

"Max India Foundation in association with Max Healthcare is organising breast cancer awareness talks across the city in various corporate offices and RWA societies," said a statement. To spread awareness about breast cancer, historical monuments - Safdarjung Tomb, Rahim Khane Khana Tomb and Subz Burj among others will be lit in pink.

Qutub Minar and Akshardham were illuminated in pink Friday evening.

"We are deeply concerned at the alarming increase in incidence of breast cancer. Max India Foundation has taken the initiative of spreading awareness about breast cancer and early detection of breast cancer across all age groups," Mohini Daljeet Singh, chief executive, Max India Foundation said in a statement.

Breast cancer is the most common cancer among women in urban India. Risk increases with age with approximately 77 percent of women being over the age of 50 at the time of diagnosis, it added.
