Military command blast in Damascus caused by booby-trapped car, explosive device

Damascus , Wed, 26 Sep 2012 ANI

Damascus, Sept. 26 (Xinhua-ANI): The twin blasts that rocked the Syrian military command in the capital Damascus early Wednesday were caused by a booby-trapped car and an explosive device, the state TV quoted a military source as saying, adding that the blasts left material damage and injuries among the headquarters' guards.

The source said armed terrorist groups carried out the attacks Wednesday morning with an explosive-laden car and an explosive device, which were detonated at the surroundings of the army's headquarters in the Umayyad Square in Damascus.

The source said all the army officers and leaders are fine and unscathed, adding that the blasts mark the bankruptcy of the perpetrators.

The source also said the blast was followed by indiscriminate shooting form armed groups in the area and surrounding streets "in a bid to instill fear in the heart of the civilians," adding that the competent forces confronted them and tracked them down.

"This appalling crime will only make our troops more determined to carry on with confronting terrorism and squash everyone that dares to infringe upon the security of the homeland and citizens," the source said. (Xinhua-ANI)
