New York, July 21 (ANI): A park in southern China is offering half-price entry to women wearing skirts shorter than 38 centimetres - an offer that has infuriated local residents.
Female staffers at the Guilin Merryland Theme Park, located in the southern Chinese city of Guilin, are in charge of measuring the skirts and only women 18 and over can participate, according to the Shanghai Daily.
The two month-long "Love Miniskirt" promotion, designed to attract members of the fairer sex to the park, will save those who take advantage of the deal 55 yuan, approximately 8.50 dollars.
"The stipulation aims to encourage female visitors to showcase their beauty in summer," the New York Daily News quoted park deputy manager Li Wenxing told the newspaper.
The deal is skirt-specific, so women who show up in a dress or shorts won't get to pocket any savings.
The park is planning to offer an even larger discount on July 21 and 22 to female visitors who arrive before noon with the goal of smashing "the world record of attracting more than 10,000 short-skirted women to the park."
Guilin Merryland is one of the main tourist attractions in the Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region, which is home to the city of Guilin, according to the Telegraph.
It boasts a hotel and a golf course and is nearly as large at Disneyland.
Wenxing says visitor numbers have spiked since it was first launched in 2007. The promotion is timed to coincide with the park's annual water-splashing festival, which attracts even more visitors.
But he also said that not everyone is in love with the idea, as many have complained that the deal is "vulgar."
"If women can enjoy discounts for showing [THEIR BODIES], then can they enter the park for free by going totally naked?" blogger Song Xiangping asked on his website, according to CNN. (ANI)
