Los Angeles, June 10 (IANS) Manny Pacquiao of the Philippines lost for the first time in seven years when American Timothy Bradley won on a controversial split decision in a World Boxing Organisation (WBO) bout in Las Vegas.
The Filipino idol saw his 15-fight winning streak snapped when judges C.J. Ross and Duane Ford awarded the bout 115-113 to Bradley and Jerry Roth scored 115-113 in favour of Pacquiao Saturday.
Pacquiao fell to 54-4-2 with 38 wins inside the distance. His nearest loss was a 12-round unanimous decision to Erik Morales in March 2005, reported Xinhua.
The unbeaten Bradley improved to 29-0 with a 12 wins inside the distance to capture the WBO welterweight title.
Bradley, however, appeared to lose the bout as he was constantly hit by Pacquiao's left straight punches.
The American got some points back in the final three rounds but the announcement of the result was booed by crowd at the MGM Grand Garden Arena.
