Yahoo eliminates digital newsstand 'Livestand' for iPads six months after launch

San Francisco, Sat, 26 May 2012 ANI

San Francisco, May 26 (ANI): American web giant Yahoo has eliminated the digital newsstand Livestand for iPads, six months after unveiling the tablet magazine, claiming it as an attempt to make the struggling website company more active.

"We've decided to discontinue or consolidate a number of products across Yahoo's technology platforms over the course of 2012," News24 quoted Yahoo, as stating in its blog.

Livestand was among the first products to be targeted for elimination under the auspices of a turn-around plan outlined by executives of the Sunnyvale, California-based company.

The tablet magazine was launched in November last year, as a way to turn tablet computers into personalised magazines rich with stories, images and video, suited to individual tastes.t was intended to serve as a platform to allow magazine or newspaper publishers to deliver content matched with the interests of people, who log into the Yahoo! Online site.

According to Yahoo, despite positive feedback from users, Livestand for iPad didn't make the cut, as the process includes scrutinising "what's working and what isn't".

"We are pivoting to a mobile-products-first development model and there's no doubt that one of the biggest, if not the biggest, priorities for us is to innovate for the mobile user," Yahoo explained. (ANI)
