Pak successfully test fires nuclear capable Hatf III Ghaznavi short range missile

Rawalpindi, May 10 (ANI): Pakistan has successfully test fired the Hatf III Ghaznavi, a short-range ballistic missile, the Inter Services Public Relation (ISPR) said.

"The missile can carry nuclear and conventional warheads up to a range of 290 kilometers," the ISPR said.

The launch was conducted in an undisclosed location, at the conclusion of the annual field training exercise of Army Strategic Force Command (ASFC). The exercise was aimed at testing the operational readiness of a Strategic Missile Group, reports The News.

"The field exercise was witnessed by the Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee General Khalid Shameem Wynne, other senior military officers, engineers and scientists," the ISPR said.

General Wynne commended the troops on displaying a high standard of proficiency in handling and operating the state of the art weapon system, adding that nation had developed a strong nuclear deterrence capability. He said that Pakistan's Armed Forces were fully capable of safeguarding Pakistan's security against aggression.

President Asif Ali Zardari and Prime Minister Yousuf Raza Gilani also congratulated the participating ASFC troops, scientists and engineers on the successful launch. (ANI)
