New Delhi, May 2 (IANS) After Delhi Metro, India Habitat Centre here will get an automated external defibrillator (AED) to provide emergency treatment to people who suffer sudden cardiac arrest.
Small and portable, the AED works like a hospital defibrillator and delivers a powerful electric shock to the heart, which is essential to re-establish a normal, rhythmic heartbeat.
"AED treats the condition through defibrillation -- the application of electrical shock which establishes a normal rhythmic heartbeat," said Arindam Sen, CEO, Opto Circuits (India), which makes the AEDs.
AEDs have been installed at all stations on the Delhi Metro Airport Express Line, as also at Kashmere Gate and Central Secretariat stations.
