Kabul, Apr 28 (Xinhua-ANI): Two local Haqqani leaders were detained Saturday in eastern Afghan province of Khost, the NATO- led International Security Assistance Force (ISAF) forces said.
"An Afghan and coalition security force captured two Haqqani leaders during an operation in Khost district, Khost province, today," the ISAF said in a press release.
The Haqqani network is the military wing of Taliban outfit operating in the capital city Kabul and the eastern provinces along the border with Pakistan.
Without identifying their names, the release said that the two leaders planned and directed roadside bombings and attacks against Afghan and coalition troops throughout the district. They also provided weapons, ammunition and equipment to Haqqani members in the district.
The network has been blamed for a string of attacks, including coordinated attacks in the capital city of Kabul and three eastern provinces earlier this month that left 51 people including 36 attackers dead and 74 others injured. (Xinhua-ANI)
