Russian cop beats lover to death

Moscow, April 25 (IANS/RIA Novosti) A criminal case has been opened against a Russian policeman who allegedly beat his lover to death, police said Wednesday.

The incident took place in the resort city of Pyatigorsk. The body of the 37-year-old woman was found Tuesday.

A police spokeswoman said the officer hit the woman on the head and torso many times and that she died on the spot.

In another case of violence, three policemen from Grozny attacked an elderly man, broke his arm and shot at his legs. Investigators said the policemen attacked the victim without warning or explanation.
