London, Apr 24 (ANI): Two Pakistani students, who raped a woman after she had fallen asleep on a night bus, have been jailed for 18-and-a-half years. The incident took place on June 4, 2011.
Rizwan Ahmad (24) and Hassan Siddique (19) targeted the 20-year-old as she made her way home from a night out in Central London. The victim, who was on the same bus as the attackers, was drunk and missed her stop. Seizing the opportunity, Ahmad struck up a conversation with her, while Siddique got off the bus.
Ahmad then persuaded her to get off at the next stop and said he would call her a taxi. He then asked Siddique to join him at the spot.
The two men lured their victim down a secluded alley and then took turns to rape her. uring their trial Ahmad and Siddique insisted their victim had encouraged them, but the jury found both defendants guilty.
Snaresbrook Crown Court Judge Tudor Owen said the pair should be deported from Britain once they complete their jail terms.
"Women travelling alone at night are entitled not to be accosted in the way the two did. She had a lot to drink, but that does not mean she should have been treated in the way she was," the Daily Mail quoted Judge Owen, as saying.
Ahmad and Siddique will serve a sentence of 10 years and eight and a half years respectively. (ANI)
