New Delhi, Apr 23 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday dismissed the plea against Army Chief designate Lieutenant General Bikram Singh.
The apex court took the decision after going through Lt. Gen Singh's service record.
Earlier in the day, the apex court had asked the Centre to place on record the file pertaining to the appointment of Lt General Bikram Singh as army chief-designate.
The directive by the apex court comes in the wake of a controversy surrounding Lt General Singh's appointment as the next army chief.
A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Supreme Court says that the Army chief-designate was involved in a fake encounter in 2001.
The petition also alleged that Lt General Singh failed to act against officers involved in sexual harassment and rape when they were posted in Congo in 2008 as part of the UN peace-keeping mission.
It claims that Lt General Bikram Singh's promotion has been influenced by extra-meritorious considerations. (ANI)
