New Delhi, Apr 23 (ANI): The Supreme Court on Monday asked the Centre to place on record the file pertaining to the appointment of Lt General Bikram Singh as the Army Chief-designate.
The apex court would go through the document pertaining to appointment of the Army chief at 2 pm, media report said.
The directive by the apex court comes in the wake of a controversy surrounding Lt General Singh's appointment as the next Army Chief. A Public Interest Litigation (PIL) filed in the Supreme Court says that the Army chief-designate was involved in a fake encounter in 2001.
The petition also alleged that Lt General Singh failed to act against officers involved in sexual harassment and rape when they were posted in Congo in 2008 as part of the UN peace-keeping mission.
It claims that Lt General Bikram Singh's promotion has been influenced by extra-meritorious considerations. (ANI)
