Washington, Apr 18 (ANI): Robert Procop, the jeweller who designed Angelina Jolie's stunning 10 carat diamond engagement ring, has been sued for fraudulently selling a 25 carat diamond necklace, which was later determined to be only 17 carats.
As reported earlier Brad Pitt finally put a ring on the mother of his six children, and the Academy Award winning actress was spotted wearing the ring last week.
The 36-year-old's engagement ring is estimated to be worth a whopping 500,000 dollars.
However, a lawyer, Roy Allenstein, sued the Beverly Hills jeweler for fraud and negligent misrepresentation.
According to the legal papers, Allenstein, agreed to purchase a 25.5 carat diamond necklace as an anniversary present for his wife for 27,000 dollars in 1985.
"In 1996 Allenstein had the necklace appraised again, prior to purchasing a companion piece...as a result of this appraisal it was discovered for the first time that the necklace in fact only contained 17.62 carats in diamonds, and not the 25.5 carats that Procop represented it to have," Radaronline quoted the legal document.
"In fact Procop intentionally misrepresented the weight and value of the necklace in both his verbal representations and in his written evaluation of the necklace for the purpose of defrauding Allenstein," the lawsuit alleges.
The docs also include an appraisal signed by Procop in which he states the necklace has 25.50 carats.
"Allenstein did not know the true weight and value of the necklace he bought from Procop, and would not have bought the necklace for 27,000 dollars had he known its true weight and value. There was fraud in the inception of the transaction between Allenstein and Procop, which fraud all permeated all of these parties communications and dealings. By reason of Procop's fraud, Allenstein has been damaged in the sum of 40,000 dollars plus interest at the legal rate since May 26, 1985," the lawsuit added.
The Beverly Hills lawyer collected an 89,000 dollars court judgement from Procop, and the lawsuit was dismissed with prejudice. (ANI)
