BJP's Jaitley accuses Centre of misusing CBI

Jaipur, Tue, 17 Apr 2012 ANI

Jaipur, Apr 17 (ANI): Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) leader Arun Jaitley has once again accused the Central Government of misusing the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to target political rivals.

Jaitley who was in Jaipur to meet party legislator Rajendra Rathore, imprisoned for his connection to an alleged fake shootout, which led to the death of a local liquor smuggler, Dara Singh, in 2006, said he was convinced the government had misused the CBI in order to implicate Rathore in the case.

"Meeting (Rajendra Rathore) was a sign of standing alongside one's colleague. However, I have been convinced even before and after meeting him, that this is a case of misuse of power of governmental powers and the CBI," he added.

When asked about his trip, Jaitley said the main reason to meet Rathore was to show support and also to understand the ground situation here.

Rathore was earlier produced in a special CBI court, where the prosecution and the defence argued over the court taking cognizance of a supplementary chargesheet filed in the case.

The court will decide on whether cognizance must be taken on April 24.

Rathore, 56, five-time legislator, was arrested by the CBI on April 5 for his alleged involvement in the allegedly fake shootout in which Dara Singh was killed. (ANI)
