Washington, April 14 (ANI): US President Barack Obama's illegal immigrant uncle is preparing to fight new efforts to have him deported back to Kenya from America.
According to the Boston Herald, Onyango Obama, 67 met with immigration enforcement officials as they begin the process of having him sent back to Kenya, and was ordered to report regularly to US Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
"ICE met with Onyango and his attorney today," the report quoted an ICE spokesman Brian Hale, as saying.
"Pursuant to this meeting, Onyango will be required to check in regularly with immigration officials pending his removal. Absent a change in his immigration status or any related court proceedings, Onyango will be required to report to ICE in the coming weeks in order to effectuate his departure from the United States," Hale added.
Onyango has lived in the US since 1963 and was ordered deported in 1992, after what his attorney said was an unwitting failure to renew his visa.
His immigration status was unearthed in August, when a Framingham cop arrested him for drunken driving.
According to the report, immigration experts predicted that Onyango will appeal the 20-year-old deportation order and apply for asylum on the grounds that the Kenyan embassy was bombed by al-Qaeda in 1998, and that hostility toward the US would put the him in danger. (ANI)
