Akhilesh meets PM, seeks more central funds for UP

New Delhi, Apr 14 (ANI): Uttar Pradesh Chief Minister Akhilesh Yadav, who met Prime Minister Dr. Manmohan Singh here on Saturday, said that the latter has assured him that the Centre will assist all schemes of the state government.

"I had a very good meeting with the Prime Minister. The Prime Minister has assured that all money, which is to be given to Uttar Pradesh as per various central schemes, will be provided," he told the media outside the Prime Minister's official, 7 Race Course Road, residence here.

Akhilesh said that he asked for central funds for development of roads, for MNREGA, for coal arrangements and for assistance in the Kumbh.

"We have asked the Centre to give money for the ongoing schemes in Uttar Pradesh so that the people of the state can avail the benefits. If Uttar Pradesh goes on the path of prosperity and development then the country will also develop because Uttar Pradesh is the most populous state," he said.

Akhilesh further said it is the priority of the Samajwadi Party (SP) to take Uttar Pradesh on the path of growth and prosperity

"The people have selected us with lot of expectations and with the support of the people, the Samajwadi Party (SP) has been able to form a government with full majority," said Akhilesh.

"The priority of the Samajwadi Party is to see how Uttar Pradesh moves ahead on the path of prosperity and development and what should be the arrangements for oads, electricity, medicine and education," he added.

Akhilesh, 38, became the youngest chief minister of Uttar Pradesh on March 15.

Akhilesh and his party won 224 of the 403 state assembly seats

He has been credited with reviving the party's image through his earnest approach and campaigns that won over the state's voters with promises of development. (ANI)
