London, April 13 (IANS) A 33-year-old Briton has admitted he blinded his girlfriend - a mother of two - by gouging out her eyes in a premeditated and vicious attack.
Shane Jenkin, of Sea Lane, Cornwall, also strangulated 31-year-old Tina Nash and severely beat her, fracturing her jaw and breaking her nose, BBC reported Friday.
He was arrested after assaulting Nash at her house in Hayle in April last year. Jenkin also kept her imprisoned in the house for 12 hours after the attack, the Truro Crown Court heard.
Though attempts were made to save the sight in one of Nash's eyes, medics failed and she was left completely blind.
Nash said the attack left her feeling "buried alive, claustrophobic" and not in control of her life.
"I truly feel that, when he was strangling me, he was trying to murder me. He has taken everything from me and robbed me of one of the most precious things in life - my sight," she said.
Her sons were aged 13 and three at the time of the attack.
Nash said she was glad her attackers had "at least taken responsibility for changing my life forever".
Nash did not have to go through a court case and give evidence.
Nash told police there had been violence in the relationship before and that she thought she could change Jenkin. She said there were previous occasions when she helped him get out of trouble after hurting her.
Jenkin is due to be sentenced next month.
