Phone hacking cases against News Corp to be filed in US courts

United Kingdom,Crime/Disaster/Accident,Media, Thu, 12 Apr 2012 IANS

London, April 12 (IANS) Law suits will be filed in US courts over alleged phone hacking by media mogul Rupert Murdoch's News Corporation. One case is reportedly linked to late princess Diana and another to the England football team.

Mark Lewis, the lawyer who exposed the phone hacking at the News of the World, will file three civil lawsuits on behalf of the victims, the Telegraph reported.

All three victims claim the offences took place while they were on US soil.

Lewis, however, did not say who his clients were.

Lewis said all the phone numbers that were allegedly hacked were found in the notebooks of Glenn Mulcaire, the private detective formerly employed by the News of the World.

He said he was keen to start requesting documents through the US courts, and said there were likely to be more victims in America.

News Corp has declined to comment.

The Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has reportedly already begun examining claims by actor Jude Law, who said his phone was hacked while he was at the J.F.K. airport in New York.

The three mentioned cases are reportedly not related to the 39-year-old actor.

A total of 21 people have been arrested by the Scotland Yard in the phone hacking case. Rebekah Brooks, former chief executive of the News of the World, was also arrested.
