World Superbike sealed, talks on for Moto GP: Jaypee

Uttar Pradesh,Sports, Thu, 12 Apr 2012 IANS

Greater Noida, April 12 (IANS) With the Superbike World Championship (WSBK) already in its kitty, the Buddh International Circuit (BIC) is making its best efforts to get the the more prestigious Moto GP, that features Indian team Mahindra Racing, by the end of 2013.

Sameer Gaur, managing director of Jaypee Sports International (JPSI), which owns the BIC, told IANS that negotiations were going on with Moto GP commercial rights holders Dorna.

'We are in the final negotiations with the Superbike race organisers and we will announce the dates in a month. The talks with them are certainly on a more advanced than the Moto GP people whom we are still negotiating. While the Superbike will happen next year, Moto GP could take place next year or 2014,' Gaur said.

Infront Motor Sport president Maurizio Flammini had told IANS that the first WSBK race in India will take place in 2013. Infront Motor Sport are the promoters of WSBK.

With the second edition of the Formula One Indian Grand Prix scheduled for Oct 26-28, Gaur said that they were looking to host five big events annually.

'We it would best if we could do around 4-5 events from October to March. The weather is ideal at this time. We will do everything that is commercially viable for the circuit,' said Gaur.

The BIC will also stage the first GT1 saloon car race in December and are also trying to host V8 Supercars race.

Though F1 drivers praised the track last year, they had issues with the dust at the venue. Gaur promised his team will take care of the shortcomings of the inaugural race.

'At a JPSI operational level, things would be lot better from last year. Last year we were in construction and operations but this year we have only operational work. We have understood where we lacked last time and will rectify those errors this time around.

'There was also a lot of construction happening at that time. Now there is no construction happening so the dust should not be a factor,' he said.
