Sitapur, Apr 12 (ANI): Three persons were burnt to death on Thursday when a truck caught fire after it was hit by another vehicle in Uttar Pradesh's Sitapur District.

The incident occurred in the morning, when a truck carrying sandalwood caught fire after it collided with another truck, resulting in the death of three persons including a woman.

A senior police official, who reached on the spot for investigations, said that the dead have been identified and the bodies were sent for autopsy.

"A truck met with an accident and it caught fire, in which three persons died on the spot. We have identified the deceased and we are taking further actions," said Vidya Sagar Mishra, Circle Officer.

An eyewitness said that fire engulfed the vehicles after collision and the locals could not venture to save the victims as the flames were massive.

"The truck driver and other passengers were sitting in the truck. When another vehicle hit the truck, it caught fire. By the time we reached this spot, which is around one kilometre away, the truck had caught fire by then. Due to the heavy flames, none of us could dare to go near the truck," said Rammanohar Pandey, a local. (ANI)
