Ahmedabad, Apr 12 (ANI): Eighteen out of the 23 convicts in the Ode village massacre case that occurred during the 2002 Gujarat communal riots were given life imprisonment by a special court in Gujarat's Anand District on Thursday.
The court also announced a prison term of seven years for the remaining five convicts in the case.
The court had earlier acquitted 23 people and convicted 23 in connection with the 2002 massacre in Ode village, in which 23 people were burnt alive by a violent mob.
There were initially a total 47 accused in the case, but one died during the trial.
More than 150 witnesses were examined while over 170 documentary evidences were placed before the court. The trial had begun at the end of 2009.
The Ode massacre was one among the nine post-Godhra riot cases that was investigated by the Special Investigating Team (SIT) appointed by the Supreme Court. (ANI)
