Jammu, Apr 10 (ANI): Union Home Minister P Chidambaram on Tuesday chaired a high-level meeting here to review security situation in Jammu and Kashmir.

Chidambaram, along with state Chief Minister Omar Abdullah chaired the meet to take stock of the situation, deliberated upon the inputs of intelligence agencies about infiltration movements in the state.

They also discussed the revocation of controversial the Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFSPA), to make public the interlocutors' report, the security for the annual Amarnath pilgrimage scheduled to begin June 25 and state government's surrender policy to bring back the misguided youths from Pakistan-administered Kashmir.

The Armed Forces Special Powers Act (AFPSA) gives security forces sweeping powers to shoot, arrest, search and detain people in battling the insurgency in Kashmir.

Abdullah had earlier said that there was need to withdraw the AFSPA in wake of the decline in militancy in the province.

Chidambaram is scheduled to hold a meeting with Governor N N Vohra at Raj Bhavan and later meet delegations of Congress leaders of Jammu and Kashmir headed by JKPCC Chief Saif-ud-Din Soz besides a delegation of Sikh leaders. (ANI)
