Most Pak parties skip parliamentary committee session on reviewing ties with US

Islamabad, Tue, 10 Apr 2012 ANI

Islamabad, Apr 10(ANI): Most of Pakistani political parties, including the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), the Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (JUI-F) and the Pakistan Muslim League-Quaid (PML-Q) skipped the Parliamentary Committee on National Security's (PCNS) session on the review of its ties with the United States.he move comes after a lacklustre response on the issue during a joint session of Pakistan parliament.

Though PML-N and PML-Q's absence was attributed to the National Energy Conference being held in Lahore, the failure of any of their leaders at the session did raise some eyebrows.

The JUI-F seemed to be sticking to its decision to boycott the committee's proceedings.

Senator Rabbani urged the JUI-F chief to end the boycott despite his opposition to re-opening the NATO supply routes.

"Maulana sahib should have come to the proceedings. To evolve consensus, it's compulsory to keep sharing reservations and grievances," The Express Tribune quoted Rabbani, as saying.

He added that there could be headway on the issue if the PML-N and the JUI-F participated in the next session. (ANI)
