Abu Dhabi, April 9 (ANI): A song dedicated to Argentinian footballer Diego Maradona has become popular within a week with about 24,000 views so far on YouTube.
The song posted on YouTube on April 3 was dedicated to Maradona by three Al Wasl fans, also known as 'Waslawis'.
According to the Gulf News, the song is a blend of old and new footages of Maradona, with cityscape views of Dubai and replays of Al Wasl's goals.
The song, written in Spanish and Arabic, has evoked mixed reactions in England and Argentina where the legend is both despised and revered in equal measure.
Al Khawar, a renowned Emirati poet who wrote the song said he was surprised to know it has become so famous within few days.
"I'm very surprised by how famous this song has become in such a short space of time. I just wrote it to welcome Diego to Dubai and to thank the people who have brought him here. I'm very happy it is so popular, but I never thought it would be like this," the paper quoted Khawar, as saying.
Maradona, who won the 1986 World Cup with Argentina, apparently loves the song and is reported to have been playing it loud with his car windows down.(ANI)
