New Delhi, Fri, 06 Apr 2012 ANI

New Delhi, Apr 6 (ANI): Representatives of Jewellers associations on Friday hinted towards ending their 21-day strike after meeting the Finance Minister Pranab Mukherjee.

Representatives of the jewellers association expressed satisfaction over the talks with Mukherjee as he assured them that government will try its best to address their demands.

Earlier in the day, the representatives also met Congress President Sonia Gandhi over the issue.

Mukherjee in his budget for fiscal 2012-13, had proposed a hike in the import duty on gold bars, coins and platinum from two to four per cent and levied one per cent excise duty on unbranded jewellery.

The proposal had evoked mass protests by the jewellers in several parts of the country. (ANI)
