Islamabad, Apr 6(ANI): An editorial in a Pakistan daily has called on the government to make a case against Jamaat-ud Dawa chief Hafiz Saeed that holds up to judicial scrutiny.
The Express Tribune editorial accused the United States for mishandling Saeed's case when it put a 10 million dollar bounty on Saeed's head.
Saeed, subsequently, gave a press conference in Rawalpindi, in which he said that he was in Lahore if anybody needed to get in touch with him.
The editorial points out that the US later had to clarify that the 10 million dollar bounty was not for Saeed's whereabouts but for information that would lead to his conviction
"Already seen by many people as a symbol of defiance against India and the West, the bounty comes as a boon for his image of a leader of the resistance against the Americans. The irony is that in announcing the bounty on Hafiz Saeed, the US has ended up adding to his fame, especially among his loyal constituency," it said.
It admitted that the bounty does, however, increase pressure on Pakistan to deal decisively with Saeed and pointed out that the international community has failed in its previous attempts to seize him. (ANI)
