Kolkata, April 6 (IANS) Several parts of Kolkata were waterlogged after heavy rains accompanied by thunderstorms lashed the city and its outskirts Friday.
"Several parts of Kolkata became waterlogged since early morning," said Rajib Deb, councillor, Kolkata Municipal Corporation (KMC).
Heavy rains and strong winds also uprooted trees and snapped power lines in large parts of Kolkata.
"The low lying areas are waterlogged. KMC is working to clear the roads," Deb said.
Train services were severely hit by the heavy rains as the automatic signalling system failed. Both Sealdah and Howrah stations were hit.
"The overhead wires were also having problem," a railway officials said, adding train services were later became "more or less normal" except in a few places.
Heavy rainfall was also reported in the neighbouring districts of Howrah, North 24 Parganas, South 24 Parganas and Hoogly.
