Gauteng cricket board chief rules out void in CSA board

Johannesburg , Tue, 03 Apr 2012 ANI

Johannesburg, Apr 3(ANI): Gauteng Cricket Board (GCB) interim chairman and administrator Ray Mali has said his resignation won't leave a void in the Cricket South Africa Board (CSA).

"We have young guys who we have here who can fit into my shoes. It cannot be vacant as there should be someone who will represent the interim board members. It has been done in the past when a president is not available and someone will represent a board," Sports24 quoted Mali, as saying.

Mali resigned at the quarterly board meeting in Johannesburg on Friday, but the CSA made no mention of it in their media briefing afterwards.hile Mali would no longer sit on the CSA board as GCB representative, he said he would continue in his role as the provincial union's chairman until his term expired on August 31.

"My role here is to try and empower people to take up responsible posts in Cricket South Africa. I'm doing exactly that and getting new leadership to take cricket forward," he said.

"It is not a matter of urgency [to elect a GCB representative] as CSA has one or two meetings before the AGM, and by then we should have elected a president of the GCB," he added.

Mali said he had considered stepping down from the CSA board as early as 2010, but the federation's leadership stopped him from doing so. (ANI)
