London, Apr 2 (ANI): Around 10 per cent of British children cannot find UK on a map of the world and five per cent even think it shares a border with America, a study has revealed.
The Heathrow airport study of 1,000 children between the ages of six and 10 also found that 41 per cent of them did not know that the UK is in Europe.
They found that 78 per cent of the children had been abroad, 48 per cent going to Spain by the age of 10 and 42 per cent to France.
However, 45 per cent could not find Spain on a map and 36% were unable to identify the location of France, the Daily Mail reported.
The USA was the third most popular holiday destination, with 19 per cent of those surveyed having been there - but 42 per cent of the children still did not know where it was, and 5 per cent believed it shared a border with the UK.
The children performed better when asked to find countries outside of Europe, with 78 per cent correctly identifying Australia, while 73 per cent knew where Russia was.
Perhaps explaining their lack of knowledge when it comes to geography, 24 per cent of the children said they did not know what an atlas was. (ANI)
