James Murdoch on brink of making 'fine line' decision over BskyB chairmanship

London, Apr 1 (ANI): Media tycoon Rupert Murdoch's son James Murdoch is reportedly on the verge of making a "fine line" decision on his future as chairman of satellite broadcaster BSkyB.

Murdoch is considering whether it would be better to resign now before a report by the Culture, Media and Sport select committee into the phone-hacking scandal at News International due at the end of the month.

Although Murdoch denies any wrong-doing, the committee is considering censuring him for failures to investigate fully allegations of illegal phone hacking practice in the newspaper group.

The issue over whether he will stand down is said to be 'finely balanced,' The Telegraph reports.

According to the paper, investors who still support Murdoch fear that if he resigns after a critical committee report or a difficult appearance before the Leveson Inquiry his record at BSkyB could be tainted.

If he goes more quickly, investors believe Murdoch will have a chance to lay out his record at BskyB, which many believe has performed well under his stewardship.

A source familiar with the matter said that the decision was on a "fine line".

If he does resign, his position is likely to be filled by Nick Ferguson, the present senior independent director, as a stop-gap measure until a new replacement can be found, the source said. (ANI)
