Agartala, Apr 1 (ANI): Tripura Chief Minister Manik Sarkar has suggested formation of a core team by the Planning Commission to monitor and assess the overall development projects in the region.
"I had proposed to the Planning Commission for formation of a core team for overseeing different developmental works and projects going on the northeastern region like-power evacuation, national highway development, broad gauging of railways, telecommunication improvement and waterways through Bangladesh," said Sarkar.
Returning from a visit to Bangladesh, Sarkar had met the Planning Commission head in New Delhi.
During the parleys, Sarkar stressed on reviving the pre-partition connectivity in this region including road, water and rail connectivity, a major portion of this infrastructure had gone to Bangladesh after bifurcation of Bengal and consequent Partition in 1947.
"I have suggested that individually Tripura cannot develop with the development of the entire region and for that ADC (Autonomous District Councils) should be further strengthened or we shall not be able to develop further. And most importantly the government of India should play proactive role in implementation of all the scopes those has come up due to improved relation with Bangladesh," Sarkar added.
He further said that that during his visit to Dhaka, Bangladesh Foreign Minister Dr Dipu Moni gave a positive signal to the matter of reviving the pre-partition water linkages between the two countries. (ANI)
