CBI files chargesheet against Jagan Reddy in illegal assets case

Hyderabad, Mar.31 (ANI): The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) filed a chargesheet against Kadapa Member of Parliament and YSR Congress president Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in connection with an illegal assets case on Saturday.

The 68-page chargesheet names Jagan Mohan Reddy as the prime accused in the case.

The names 12 other persons, including the names of top Indian Administration Service (IAS) officers and some politicians.

The agency had filed the case in 2011 on the directives by the Andhra Pradesh High Court.

The high court passed orders to file the case on the basis of petitions filed before it by State Handlooms and Textile Minister P Shankar Rao, three members of main opposition TDP, and a Kadapa-based lawyer.

The CBI raided companies that had invested in Jagan Mohan Reddy businesses to allegedly win favours in the form of land allotments and mining leases from the then government led by Jagan Mohan Reddy's father and late Andhra Pradesh chief minister Y.S.Reddy.

Earlier, the Supreme Court had issued notice to six ministers and eight IAS officers in connection with the ongoing CBI probe into the disporportionate assets case.

The notice was issued to them in connection with the 26 government orders issued during the YS Rajsekhara Reddy rule allegedly to dole out favours to his son YS Jagan Mohan Reddy.

The SC has issued the notices based on a petition alleging that the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was not proceeding against them despite holding sufficient evidence that they had helped Y.S. Jagan Mohan Reddy in accumulating massive illegal assets.

The Supreme Court has asked to ministers and IAS officers to file their replies either in person or through their advocates. (ANI)
