New Delhi, March 29 (IANS) Terming as a sensitive issue General V.K. Singh's leaked communication to Prime Minister Manmohan Singh highlighting gaps in defence preparedness and his allegations of being offered bribe, the Congress Thursday said the army chief should not have gone to the media over it.
'There was no need for him (the army chief) to go to the media after he had spoken with the defence minister, A.K. Antony, about the alleged bribe offer,' Congress spokesperson Renuka Chaudhary told reporters.
She supported the government's move to ask the Intelligence Bureau to probe who leaked Gen Singh's letter.
'If the army chief has said that leaking his letter to the prime minister is an act of treason, it must be looked into,' said Chaudhary.
She maintained that the army chief was competent enough to go for routine purchases.
Rubbishing the concerns expressed by Gen Singh over levels of defence preparedness, Chaudhary said no compromise would be made on this front.
