Jaipur, March 28 (IANS) In yet another shocking incident, a body of a newborn girl was found in a plot in a residential colony here Wednesday, a day after the corpse of a newborn girl was recovered from a dustbin, police said.

Some passers-by spotted the body of the infant girl wrapped in a piece of cloth in an empty plot in Ambabari area, a posh colony in the city.

"They informed the police station following which a team was rushed there. Postmortem is being carried out to ascertain the cause of death," a police officer told IANS.

He added that an FIR has been registered against unidentified couple who dumped the body there.

"It is quite shocking that the girl's body was dumped in a residential colony. It seems that the child was an unwanted baby as it was a girl. We are questioning the staff of nearby hospitals and nursing homes to get a clue about the mother," said the officer.

A body of another infant girl had been recovered from a dustbin in Shashtri Nagar area of the city Tuesday. The residents spotted the body when dogs were dragging it out from the bin.

Rajasthan has been in the news due to increasing cases of female foeticide and infanticide.

Poverty, ignorance about family planning and high dowry have been reported as the possible causes for this crime.

According to Census 2011, Rajasthan has 883 girls in the age of 0-6 for every 1,000 boys. The child sex ratio in 2001 was 909.

Alarmed over the skewed sex ratio, the state government recently announced steps to curb pre-natal sex determination tests at ultrasound clinics.

The steps include increasing the number of health department inspection teams and equipping them with devices like hidden cameras and voice recorders.

The government has also announced Rs.1 lakh money to a person who complains about errant ultrasound clinics.
