Seoul, March 26 (IANS/RIA Novosti) Russian President Dmitry Medvedev met his South Korean counterpart Lee Myung-bak Monday during the ongoing Seoul Nuclear Security Summit.
Medvedev said their seventh meeting is "evidence of an unprecedented amount of activity between the two countries and the friendly nature of the personal relationships that exist between us".
Russia and South Korea have "significantly developed their cooperation" in recent years, Lee said.
The two-day summit in the South Korean capital will focus on international measures to protect nuclear materials and facilities from terrorism threats.
Neighbouring North Korea has been subjected to several rounds of UN Security Council sanctions since it declared itself a nuclear power in 2005. The state broke off talks with South Korea, China, the US, Japan and Russia on its nuclear programme in April 2009, after the UN Security Council passed a resolution condemning its missile tests.
