Islamabad, Mar 26 (ANI): Petitioner to the memo case, Barrister Mohammad Zafarullah Khan has objected to Chairman of Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front Yasin Malik being made a party to the court proceedings in the memo case, claiming that he has no connection with it and his participation would serve to stretch the case.
Vital disclosures are expected from Malik, who has clarified that he, would appear before the memo commission and give details of his relationship with Pakistani-American businessman Mansoor Ijaz, the key man in the Memo Gate scandal, The Dawn reports.
Earlier, Malik's wife had submitted an application to the memo commission, insisting that the allegations made by Ijaz that he had arranged a meeting between her husband and C. D. Sahay, a former Indian intelligence chief, had damaged Yasin's reputation.
In her petition, Yasin Malik's wife Mushaal requested the commission to provide her husband an opportunity to explain his position. She said since Malik was at present in Srinagar, he could appear before the commission next month.
At this point, Ijaz's counsel, contrary to the stance taken by him earlier, suggested to the commission to delete the portion of the testimony related to Malik from the record.
He said acceptance of the application would open a new Pandora's box because the commission would have to summon the former Indian intelligence chief and a reporter of a foreign newspaper as well.dvocate Bokhari requested the commission to accept the plea, saying: "Since Malik claims having some evidence against Mr Ijaz, he will be useful for the inquiry."
The commission had deferred the matter till Sunday (today). (ANI)
