Washington, Mar 24(ANI): Former Indian-origin Rutgers student Dharun Ravi has claimed that web-streaming his gay roommate's encounter for the second time "actually wasn't my idea."
He said that another student had suggested him to spy his roommate as he wanted to see his gay room-mate Tyler Clementi's date, ABC News reports.
"That actually wasn't my idea," This kid, he wanted to see the guy, so he says, 'Oh you should have your webcam like it was on Sunday so I can see who this guy is," Ravi was quoted as saying.
He rejected the suggestion that he or his friends were intent of seeing both engaged in sex.
Ravi stressed that he is not a bully, nor did he hate Clementi or gay people and added that t was that insistence that prompted him to reject a no-jail plea deal early because it would have required him to say he acted out of hatred for gays.
"I was only 18 years old (in 2010)," he said. "...in 18 years of life, I don't see how someone could have so much hate towards a group of people for any reason," he added.
Ravi, 20, was convicted of invading privacy of roommate Tyler Clementi through webcam spying.
Clementi had committed suicide by jumping off the George Washington Bridge hwn he learnt that his encounter was web-streamed. (ANI)
