Agartala, mar 16 (ANI): Over 350 youth from Tripura took part in a National Cadet Corps (NCC) training camp held here recently, with a large number of the participants being girls.

The course included basic training in drill and ceremonials, field craft, map reading, navigation, handling of infantry weapons and the elements of military organization. The camp aimed at developing character, courage, comradeship, secular outlook, spirit of adventure and the ideals of selfless service amongst the youth.

"I want to do something for my country. Here at NCC we are trained in maintaining discipline, punctuality, unity, brotherhood, and friendship. That's why I like NCC, and I joined it," said Sofia, a student.

The presence of large number of youth reflected their interest in joining the armed forces and their desire to serve the country.

"I joined NCC because I like the army and the way they work. So I joined NCC as a patron of Indian Army and I want to be a part of it," said Anurabh Dhar, another student.

The training programme also exposed the cadets to various social issues in an effort to sensitize them. The main aim of this camp was to motivate youth from the Northeast to join the Armed Forces.

"Basically, we make them interact with each other so that they can understand different religions, castes and national integration. We also train in weapons, drills, sports and other things," said Lt Colonel Yashpal Balhara.

"Discipline in NCC is the most important thing here. We all live together as brother and sisters. So, I love NCC and people must join NCC. I feel like I am at the top of the world," said Mitali Lama, a student.

Selected cadets after completion of the camp will be given first hand experience and training in different military units.

NCC is a tri-services organization comprising the Army, Navy and Air Force that contributes towards all round development of the youth of the country. As of today NCC has approximately 13 lakhs cadets under it. (ANI)
