London, Mar 16(ANI): Chelsea has stepped up efforts to recover around 14 million pounds from former striker Adrian Mutu, who left the club in 2004 after being caught taking cocaine.
Shamed Romanian striker Mutu was ordered by world football chiefs to pay the club 14 million pounds as compensation for breaching his contract, but he is yet to pay the amount.
Now, Chelsea are taking legal steps to grab a 1.7 million pound worth four-bed property, a 1.1 million pound worth three-bed house and a 600,000 pound worth two-bed flat he bought in Miami after leaving England.
"We are exercising our legal remedies to recover the amounts owed to us," The Sun quoted a Chelsea official, as saying.
Mutu, 33, was bought for 15.8 millions pound in 2003 and now plays for Italian side Cesena.
A Florida judge has refused to block the move to take his assets but Mutu said US law allowed him another appeal.
Mutu said: "It's a case which won't be resolved soon." (ANI)
