Imphal, Mar 15 (ANI): An eight-year-old girl was killed, while five others sustained severe injuries in a blast that took place in Manipur's Imphal city on Thursday.
The blast, which is suspected to be caused by an Improvised Explosive Device (IED), occurred around 8.45 a.m. at the residence of a retired Manipur Rifles official.
"Today, we got information through telephone that one bomb blast has occurred at Pangei Lairammapal. In that blast, I think one girl, she was killed in the blast," said Th. Raikumar Singh, officer in charge, Pangei police station.
It is reported that impact of the explosion was such that roof of the house made of metal sheet was blown apart, while remains of the damaged house were seen fallen up till several metres from the blast site.
Soon after the blast, the injured family members were rushed to the Jawaharlal Nehru hospital, out which two are said to be in critical condition.
Bomb experts and senior police officials also visited the blast site to take stock of the situation.
The blast comes just one day after the swearing in of New Manipur Chief Minister Okram Ibobi Singh for the third consecutive time to office. (ANI)
