Present-day mums don't have time to learn household chores

London, Thu, 15 Mar 2012 ANI

London, Mar 17 (ANI): An increasing number of mothers are lacking in household skills like baking, knitting and sewing are dying out as they are too busy to learn them, a new study has revealed.

Millions of mothers struggle with making pastry, jam or stitching on a button, according to a survey for oven firm Neff, which interviewed 1,000 mothers aged under 35 and 1,000 over 45, the Daily Express reported.

The survey revealed that nine out of 10 younger mothers do not know how to starch a shirt, while more than half struggle to sew name tags.

Less than a third could make pastry, less than half could sew, and less than one quarter knew how to knit.

On the other hand, more than a third of mothers over 45 could sew a fancy dress costume while 43 per cent knew how to make jam. (ANI)
