New Delhi, Mar 14 (ANI): Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday presented the railway budget in Lok Sabha.
The highlights of the Railway Budget 2012-13 are as follows:
Propose to introduce 75 new express trains, 21 passenger trains
Railways to hire one lakh employees in 2012-2013
Guru Parikrama special trains to run through Amritsar, Patna, Nanded routes
Propose to set up housekeeping committee for train and station hygiene
Plan to set up three disaster management training centres at Bengaluru, Kharagpur and Lucknow
Introduction of alternate train accommodation system for wait-listed passengers on other trains
Twenty one escalators to be installed at important stations
Propose to raise passenger amenities allocation from Rs762 crore to Rs1012 crore
Connectivity to join Agartala with Akura in Bangladesh
75 new services in Mumbai to be introduced
2,500 coaches to be equipped with green toilets in pilot projects
Propose Rs 4,410 core for capacity augmentation works
Plan to set up Indian Railway Station Organisation to redevelop, maintain stations on the lines of airports
Railways will require Rs 14 lakh crore in the next 10 years for modernisation. (ANI)
