Highlights of Railway Budget 2012-13 (Part-I)

New Delhi, Mar 14 (ANI): Union Railway Minister Dinesh Trivedi on Wednesday presented the railway budget in the Lok Sabha.

 

The highlights of the Railway Budget 2012-13 are as follows:

 

Annual outlay target at Rs 60,100 crore

 

Rs 3,393 crore for doubling of lines, 23 new line doubling projects next year

 

- Poised to have 4500 km of route electrification this fiscal, and propose 6500 km in 12th plan period

 

- Conversion of DC to AC fully achieved on Western Railway, Central Railway to be complete in 2012-2013.

 

Target of 800 km gauge conversion for next year with fund allocation of Rs 1,950 crore

 

Allocation Rs6,872 crore under new line plan

 

Propose to undertake 114 new line surveys in 2012-2013

 

Propose to set up logistics corporation and logistics park

 

Wagon factory to be set up in Orissa

 

Propose to set up rail connectivity to Nepal from Bilaspur and Agartala to Akhaura in Bangladesh

 

Rail wheel plant at Chhapra produced ready for commissioning on 2012-13

 

Dedicated freight corridor from Ludhiana to Dankuni and Dadri to JN Port, part funding from World Bank

 

Elevated car project from Churchgate to Virar through PPP route to be studied

 

Udhampur Srinagar-Baramula line to be electrified

 

Plan to set up three training centres for training in disaster management

 

Satellite based real-time information of trains to update passengers on all running trains in next 18 months

 

Extension of house keeping, mobile booking, alternate train accommodating system for wait listed passengers

 

Special coaches planned for differently-abled. (ANI)
