Syrian forces accused of perpretating worst atrocity after killing 45 women, children

Damascus,Mar 13(ANI): Syrian forces are being accused of perpretating one of the worst atrocities following reports of at least 45 women and children being hacked or burnt to death for protesting the President Bashar-al Assad regime.

The disclosure has prompted British Foreign Secretary William Hague to call for an international action against Syria.

Hague admitted that diplomacy has failed to curb violence in Syria.

"The situation in Syria casts a long shadow over this debate. In the eyes of the overwhelming majority of the world, this Council has so far failed in its responsibilities towards the Syrian people. It has failed to address the brutal oppression of peaceful protesters by the Syrian regime," The Telegraph quoted Hague,as saying.

Of the women and children killed, some had their throats slit, while others were set on fire. Four of the dead were children aged between five or six years.

Militia loyal to Assad carried out the "massacre" in the in the Karm el-Zeytoun area in Homs on the night of March 11, according to the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

Meanwhile, a United Nations Human Rights Council report has accused the Syrian regime of torturing opponents in hospitals, rendering many people too afraid to seek treatment.

"The commission documented evidence that sections of Homs Military Hospital and al-Ladhiqiyah State Hospital had been transformed into torture centres. Security agents, in some cases joined by medical staff, chained seriously injured patients to their beds, electrocuted them, beat wounded parts of their body or denied them medical attention and water," he added.
