London, Mar 11(ANI): A curry house opened by UK Home Secretary Theresa May has been raided by her own immigration officers.
It is the second time that the restaurant has been targeted for suspected illegal workers.
"This is a massive embarrassment for the Home Secretary and is a mistake she won't want to repeat a third time," The Mirror quoted the source, as saying.
Officers from the Borders Agency raided the Innovation and found three suspected illegal immigrants, who are believed to have over-stayed their visas.
The three-storey restaurant is likely to face a fine of upto 50,000 pounds if it is proved that it employed those men without carrying out proper checks.
Innovation restaurant owner Abdush Siddiquie claimed the detained men were not working for him.
"They took some people from upstairs and some from downstairs but those people were living here and were not working. I had given them shelter and free food," he added.
May, whose department oversees immigration, is pictured on the website of the Innovation, cutting a ribbon for the official opening.
She is also photographed receiving a bunch of flowers and having a meal with the owners.
Border checks were found to have been relaxed in 2011, letting in hundreds of thousands of people who were not checked for terrorist or criminal links. (ANI)
